High Education Loans Board (HELB) is about to launch a Student Smart card aimed at improving efficiency in the loan disbursement scheme. This comes ahead of the 2015 deadline to discard the use of Bank accounts to access the loans from the institution.

Meru University has partnered with Equity bank to produce the card which will be on a digital wallet platform hence other than tuition fees, the card can be used to pay for meals, accommodation and pocket money. The card has already been designed and is expected to be released to the students soon.
