SCHOOL OF EDUCATION (SEd)

The School has two departments namely; Department of Education Science chaired by Dr. Ibuathu C. Njati and Department of Educational Communications Technology chaired by Dr. Mercy N. Thuranira. The school admitted her 110 pioneer students for the Bachelor of Education Science in September 2014. The school aspires to produce innovative and quality science teachers in order to enhance modern ways of disseminating knowledge. The student population is currently 480. Students specialise in science education with the following subject combinations: Mathematics/Physics, Mathematics/Chemistry, Physics/Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, Mathematics/Agriculture, Mathematics/Computer studies, Chemistry/Biology and Biology/Agriculture.

The School of Education will soon be launching Bachelor of Education in Mathematics and Business studies option plus several masters of education programs.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

Bachelor of Education  (Science)

 

 

Have a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in K.C.S.E. and should have a minimum grade of C+ (plus) in any two teaching subjects from the following:

C (plain) in Mathematics if not a teaching subject, Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Agriculture/ Mathematics or Computer Studies & Mathematics or Computer Studies & Physics and C (plain) in Mathematics & English/Kiswahili. Candidates holding a Diploma in Education and with C (plain) in K.C.S.E and two teaching subjects will be considered for admission into the 2nd year of study.

Tuition fees per semester: Ksh. 45,000

  1. REQUIREMENTS FOR BED ARTS {BED (Arts)}

Mean grade of C+ (C plus) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and a C (Plain) in English/Kiswahili.

In addition, one should have at least a C+ (plus) in the two teaching subjects namely: – English, literature, (Grade for English is considered here) mathematics, geography, history, CRE, Business Studies, Computer Studies, physical and health education (PE), music.

NB: Those wishing to take business studies/computer studies must have C+ in mathematics.

 

  1. REQUIREMENTS FOR BED SCIENCE {BED (Sc.)}

C+ (C plus) in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and a C (Plain) in English/Kiswahili.

In addition, one should have at least a C+ (plus) in the two teaching subjects namely: -mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture.

NB: Those wishing to take Agriculture /computer studies must have C+ in Biology and mathematics respectively.

 

  1. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP (ED M & L) A candidate wishing to study for the masters of education degree must satisfy the minimum University and the School of Education (SED) requirements for admission. A candidate must have at least bachelor of education (science) or bachelor of education (arts) or bachelor of agricultural education and extension with:

– Second class honours Upper division or

-Second class honours lower division with at least two years’ experience

OR

-credit in post graduate diploma in education. 

 A candidate may apply to enroll for the programme in January, May or September.

 

  1. MASTER OF EDUCATION IN PLANNING AND ECONOMICS (M.ED P & E)

A candidate wishing to study for the masters of education degree must satisfy the minimum University and the School of Education (SED) requirements for admission. A candidate must have at least bachelor of education (science) or bachelor of education (arts) or bachelor of agricultural education and extension with:

– Second class honours Upper division or

-Second class honours lower division with at least two years’ experience

OR

-credit in post graduate diploma in education. 

 A candidate may apply to enroll for the programme in January, May or September.

 

  1. POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)

A bachelor’s degree with two teaching subjects with at least (12 units in each subject reflecting secondary school curriculum content).

 Total programme fees Ksh.142, 500.00.
