PROF. CHARITY W. GICHUKI, PhD Ag. Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Charity W. Gichuki has been appointed as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) with effect from Tuesday, 6th March 2018.  Prof. Gichuki holds a PhD (1994) from the University of Glasgow and Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM, 1987) from the University of Nairobi. After graduating with a BVM, Prof Gichuki practiced as a veterinary surgeon with the Government of Kenya (Laikipia District) between July 1987 and September 1988, after which she joined the Kenya Trypanosomiasis Research Institute (KETRI) where she worked for eleven years (September 1988 to August 1999).  At KETRI, she rose through the ranks from an Assistant Research Officer to Senior Research Officer.  She then joined Kenyatta University as a lecturer in 1999 until 2011, where she grew through the ranks to an Associate Professor in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences.  Between 2003 and 2005, she was a consultant for a Non-Governmental Organisation, Africa Harvest Biotech Foundation International, where she served as the Technical Director on community development projects to various end user communities, mainly small scale farmers.  In May 2011, she joined the Presbyterian University of East Africa (PUEA) as a Research Professor.  While working there, she grew to become the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in charge of Academic Affairs, Administration and Finance.  In 2014, she joined Meru University of Science and Technology as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Finance and Planning where she served until her appointment as Ag. Vice-Chancellor.
