Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted the 2nd Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA) Mt. Kenya Regional Alumni Chapter International Conference on Higher Education. The International Conference which was held from 4th to 6th October, 2017 brought together scholars from various Universities as well as other sectors. The theme of this year’s conference was University-Industry Linkages: Identifying and Synergizing Opportunities for Quality Higher Education. The conference was officially opened on 4th October, 2017 by Dr. Salome Guchu, Ag. Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya National Innovation Agency, who represented Prof. Collete Suda, Principal Secretary, State Department of University Education, Ministry of Education. In Prof. Collete’s speech read on her behalf by Dr. Guchu, Prof. Collete was happy to note that the conference was a true demonstration of collaboration among universities. She further thanked DAAD for remaining steadfast in supporting these forums and the Kenya DAAD Scholars for the organization. Prof. Collete was happy that the theme of the conference touches on the mandate of universities which includes training, research and community outreach. She was also impressed by the quality and diversity of the topics. Prof. Collete was convinced that at the end of the conference tangible recommendations would emanate which will assist the Government to address some of the challenges facing higher education, science and technology. Also in attendance at the conference was Prof. Japhet K. Magambo – Vice-Chancellor of Meru University of Science and Technology, Prof. Mucai Muchiri – Vice-Chancellor of Karatina University, Prof. Kamau Ngamau – Vice-Chancellor of Co-operative University of Kenya, Prof. Florence Indede, National Chairperson of KDSA, Prof. P. Aloo-Obudho – DVC-ARSA of Karatina University and Chairperson of the Kenya DAAD Scholars Association committee, Mt. Kenya region, Prof. Gitonga N. Mburugu, DVC-ARS of Meru University of Science and Technology, Dr. Benedict Mtasiwa of the Inter-University Council of East Africa (IUCEA) among other distinguished guests.
