DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR, ACADEMIC AND STUDENT AFFAIRS – MUST/ACA/02/18

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate shall co-ordinate the following functions and activities:

  1. Academic planning and development;
  2. Academic policies and procedures;
  3. Teaching and training which includes planning for academic programmes, preparation of syllabi and their regulations, timetables, examinations, certificates and transcripts and graduation, library services, and students attachment and training of academic staff;
  4. Students affairs which include admissions and records, University students welfare (recreational, sports and games), counselling and discipline;
  5. Academic support services which include library services, co-ordination of the allocation of resources for academic purposes and safety in teaching areas;
  6. Academic quality assurance.
  7. Allocation of academic facilities such as buildings, rooms and offices in the University as well as the formulation of the rules governing their allocation and utilization;
  8. Planning and coordination of election of Deans of Schools.
  9. Exercise such other powers, and discharge other academic functions as are assigned to him/her by the Vice-Chancellor in accordance with the statutes;
  10. Shall be a member of Senate and University Management Board.

Qualifications for appointment to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs 

  1. Be at least an Associate Professor with an earned Ph.D. from a recognized University;
  2. Have at least ten (10) years of academic and research experience at a senior lecturer position in a University setting with a demonstrated capacity for leadership and academic excellence;
  3. Be registered with, and be an active member of professional associations in his/her profession;
  4. Have held senior administrative posts of at least Chair of Academic department or leadership of comparable levels in a university or other institutions of higher learning for at least five (5) years;
  5. Possess an outstanding and internationally recognized scholarship record as evidenced by peer-refereed journal publications and university level books or book chapters and supervision of masters and doctoral students;
  6. Have ability and leadership skills to effectively co-ordinate teaching and research functions in the University;
  7. Have the capacity to promote learning in competitive environment through commitment to academic excellence;
  8. Possess demonstrable knowledge of Performance Contracting and Quality Management System and strategic planning in academic development of the University;
  9. Have demonstrated ability to attract research grants and other awards;
  10. Have excellent understanding of current trends in university education and training globally and the factors and conditions shaping development of university education in Kenya;
  11.  Have demonstrated competence in academic leadership in an academic/research environment;
  12. Demonstrate capacity to initiate and facilitate the development of relevant and quality market and society driven academic programmes
  13. Have excellent analytical, problem solving, decision making, team building, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  14. Demonstrate ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated creative solutions.
  15. Have knowledge and understanding of computerized management information systems, applications and tools.
  16. Have strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  17. Comply with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 on leadership and integrity.

ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

CHIEF LEGAL OFFICER – GRADE 14 –      MUST/ADM/05/18 (1 POST)

The Chief Legal Officer shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor and is responsible for efficient legal, advisory and secretariat services of the Council.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serving as Secretary to the Council and all its Committees
  2. Guiding the Council on the key Governance and compliance issues
  3. Recording and circulating minutes of the Council
  4. Acting as custodian of seals, minutes and various records to ensure conformity with regulations
  5. Proactively promoting good governance in all committees of Council
  6. Providing guidance to the Council and its committees about its responsibilities and accountabilities under the Universities Act, Charter and Statutes; and on how these should be discharged
  7. Ensuring that the Council and its committees adopt best practice in all their work
  8. Working closely with the Vice Chancellor to ensure that Council meetings and business are conducted efficiently and in compliance with relevant legislation.
  9. Review university’s legal and regulatory framework to ensure compliance, removal of impediments and security of member’s contributions.        

Requirements:

  1. A Master’s Degree in Law
  2. Bachelor of Law Degree from a recognized University
  3. Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the LSK, and have a valid practicing certificate.
  4. Certified Public Secretary and member of ICPSK with a valid membership certificate
  5. At least 3 years’ experience as a board Secretary in a large corporation.
  6. Fully computer literate
  7. Proven knowledge of corporate regulatory and company law, rules and norms
  8. Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  9. Be of high integrity and ensure confidentiality.
  10. Have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  11. Comply with the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 on leadership and integrity.

DEPUTY CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER – GRADE 11/12 – MUST/ADM/04/18 (1 POST)

The Deputy Chief Security Officer shall be responsible to the Vice Chancellor and will be in charge of the Department of Security and Safety, in overall management, direction, control and co-ordination of Security Operations at the University.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. In-Charge of the security department.
  2. Responsible for security matters related to students and staff.
  3. Manage security intelligence systems within the University
  4. Carry out any investigation requested by Vice-Chancellor
  5. Investigation of disciplinary matters as referred by Management Board
  6. Attend to all security meetings in all Campuses
  7. Plan and organize training for security staff
  8. Execute periodic security surveys for all campuses
  9. Liaise with the external security agent
  10. Advisor to the University Management Board on security Issues
  11. Responsible for formulation, planning and control of the departmental budget
  12. Effective coordination and implementation of policies in the department
  13. Responsible for formulation and implementation of departmental strategic plan
  14. Responsible for the procurement of stores for the department
  15. Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time

Requirements:

  1. Must possess Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology/Security Science or its equivalent from a recognized Institution. A Master Degree in Criminology/Security Science will be an added advantage
  2. Must have worked with any of the Disciplined Forces of Kenya for at least ten (10) years
  3. Must have served at the level of Chief inspector of police or captain
  4. Must have a clean Discharge Certificate
  5. Must possess Certificate of Good Conduct
  6. Must possess First Aid Certificate
  7. Must possess Fire Fighting Certificate
  8. Must have at least three (3) years working experience as Security Officer or comparable position
  9. Must be Computer literate
  10. Must be medically and physically fit

STUDENT COUNSELOR – GRADE 11/12        –       MUST/ADM/06/18  (1 POST)

Requirements:

  1. At least a Master Degree in Counseling Psychology
  2. Must possess Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling psychology or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
  1. At least five (5) years post qualification related work experience at a university setting or other institutions of higher learning
  2. Applicants with training or education background and experience in designing and conducting training programs for the holistic development of youth will have an added advantage.
