On 11^th November 2025, the Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) community had the honour of hosting a tree planting exercise in partnership with the National Bank of Kenya (NBK). The event was graced by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, who led staff, students, and partners in planting trees within the University grounds.

The NBK team, under the leadership of Mr. Daniel Maina, the Meru Branch Manager, collaborated with the University community to establish the NBK Forest, a living symbol of the shared commitment between the two institutions towards promoting environmental sustainability and combating climate change. The initiative aligns with the government’s national tree restoration program and supports the University’s ongoing environmental conservation agenda.

In his remarks, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo highlighted the crucial role trees play in maintaining ecological balance, mitigating the effects of climate change, and fostering sustainable development. He noted that every tree planted today represents hope for future generations and a step toward achieving a healthier planet. The Vice-Chancellor further encouraged the University community to continue championing sustainability initiatives, both on campus and beyond, as part of their civic duty and moral responsibility.

On their part, the National Bank of Kenya team expressed their gratitude to Prof. Odhiambo and the University Management for granting them the opportunity to establish the NBK Forest within the institution. They assured the Vice-Chancellor that the Bank would take care of the trees to ensure they thrive and contribute meaningfully to environmental restoration efforts.

The exercise brought together staff, students, and representatives from NBK, demonstrating the power of collaboration in advancing environmental conservation. Participants enthusiastically took part in planting the trees, symbolizing personal commitment to nurturing and protecting the environment.
