CISED: Transforming Skills, Innovation and Ideas into Enterprise at MUST
Meru University of Science and Technology advances practical skills development and innovation through the Centre for Industrial Skills, Enterprise and Development (CISED), an initiative funded by the Safaricom Foundation.
The future of work demands more than academic qualifications; it requires practical competencies, entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to translate knowledge into solutions. At Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST), this vision is taking shape through the Centre for Industrial Skills, Enterprise and Development (CISED).
Located at the university’s Main Campus in Nchiru, Meru County, CISED is a strategic investment in skills development, enterprise creation and innovation-led growth.

Funded by the Safaricom Foundation, the Centre is nearly 70% complete at the time of the latest inspection by MUST Chancellor Dr. Peter Ndegwa. Its development reflects MUST’s commitment to strengthening practical training and preparing learners to respond to evolving industry demands.
Bridging the Gap Between Knowledge and Practice
CISED is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the world of work by promoting hands-on industrial skills, technical training and enterprise development. Through practical learning opportunities, the Centre is expected to strengthen the connection between theoretical knowledge and its application in real-world settings.

Its focus on technical competencies will help learners develop relevant skills that support employability, productivity and adaptability in a changing economic environment.
Turning Innovation into Opportunity
Beyond technical training, CISED will provide an enabling environment for advancing research commercialization and entrepreneurship. By supporting the translation of research findings and innovative ideas into practical applications, products and services, the Centre will contribute to MUST’s broader innovation agenda.
This approach creates opportunities to nurture entrepreneurial talent, encourage enterprise development and support pathways towards self-employment and job creation.

Driving Sustainable Socio-Economic Development
CISED represents more than a training facility. It is an investment in people, potential and the University’s contribution to regional and national development. By connecting skills, innovation and enterprise, the Centre has the potential to support businesses, strengthen industry linkages and contribute to sustainable livelihoods.

As MUST continues to advance its mandate in education, research and innovation, CISED reinforces its commitment to producing graduates who are equipped not only to seek opportunities but also to create them.
With support from the Safaricom Foundation, MUST is building a future where knowledge creates value, innovation drives progress, and practical skills unlock opportunities.
