Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) is hosting a three-day Bamboo Expo from 16th to 18th September 2026, bringing together government representatives, researchers, industry players, farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders to explore the growing potential of bamboo for innovation, environmental sustainability and economic development.

The Expo provides a platform for stakeholders to showcase bamboo-based products and innovations, exchange knowledge and explore opportunities across the bamboo value chain.

The opening of the Expo brought together various leaders and stakeholders, including Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, who graced the event and joined participants in highlighting the importance of sustainable environmental practices and collaboration in unlocking the potential of bamboo.

A key feature of the Expo has been a series of panel discussions bringing together experts and practitioners to deliberate on various issues affecting the bamboo sector. The discussions have explored areas including bamboo cultivation, value addition, research and innovation, commercialization, market opportunities and the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders.

The conversations have also highlighted the potential of bamboo as a sustainable resource, particularly in supporting environmental conservation, creating employment opportunities and providing alternative raw materials for different industries.

Through exhibitions, panel discussions and interactive sessions, participants are gaining insights into emerging technologies, bamboo-based products and opportunities within the sector. The Expo is also creating a platform for networking and knowledge exchange among researchers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, farmers and industry stakeholders.
