Canadian International Development Scholarships 2030 (BCDI)

Meru University of Science and Technology is pleased to announce that five (5) students from our institution who graduated with Diploma in Agriculture have won scholarships to study Bachelor of Technology (Small Business Management) at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada. Each applicant won 100,000 USD.  The total number of applicants were twenty-six (26). Out of these, ten (10) were shortlisted to the next level. In the following round of the selection, five (5) were selected to take up the scholarships. The first three will join Dalhousie University in September of 2025. The three in order of merit are:

Poline Gakii

 

Lmisingan George

Esther Wambui Macharia

The other two will join Dalhousie University in the September of 2026 and they are:

Valentine Wanju Njeru

 

Aisha Omar Halake

The committee involved in this exercise include:  Prof. Peter Masinde, Dr. Cecilia Wanjau, and Dr. Beatrice Owiti all from Meru University of Science and Technology. Others involved were from Dalhoisie University and they included: Dr. Tasha Richard, PhD Assistant Professor, Entrepreneurship and Prof. Matthew Shnurr Ph.D Professor in and chair of Department of International Development Studies.

During a congratulatory event held at the VCs office, Vice Chancellor Professor Romanus Odhiambo extended his heartfelt congratulations to the selected students. He praised their academic efforts and resilience, highlighting their selection as a clear indicator that Meru University students can compete and thrive on the global academic stage.

Professor Odhiambo shared vital insights on navigating life abroad. He urged the students to remain grounded, disciplined, and to act as ambassadors of Meru University and Kenya at large. “Let this be the beginning of many doors opening for you,” he said. “Carry the spirit of innovation and integrity wherever you go.”

He also acknowledged the broader university fraternity for providing a nurturing environment that fosters academic excellence, innovation, and global exposure.

This achievement affirms Meru University’s position as a progressive institution committed to providing quality, practical, and globally competitive education. As we celebrate the success of our five scholars, we remain steadfast in our mission to transform lives through knowledge, innovation, and partnerships.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations once more to Poline Gakii, Lmisingan George, Esther Wambui Macharia, Valentine Wanju Njeru, and Aisha Omar Halake. Their success is an inspiration to current and future students at Meru University and a testament to what dedication and opportunity can accomplish.
