Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) launched the Information Security Management System (ISMS) in a colourful ceremony attended by the University Management Board and members of staff on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor appreciated all who had been instrumental to the University achieving success with the integration of ISMS. Prof. Odhiambo thanked the University leadership led by the Chancellor Dr. James Mwangi, the University Council, Senate and staff for working effortlessly to continually provide Quality Education.
“As we offer Quality Education, we nurture our students to be creative thinkers. We encourage them to actively set out in identifying challenges beforehand and more importantly, create and implement effective solutions. The implementation of ISMS into the University’s way of life is a great step in the right direction. The Standard’s holistic approach covers the whole organization, not just Information Technology (IT), and encompasses people, processes and technology. This enables you to readily understand risks and embrace security controls as part of your everyday working practices.” Prof. Romanus Odhiambo
Prof. Odhiambo also said that this globally recognized standard blends seamlessly with our mission to provide internationally acclaimed University Education. The Vice Chancellor added that ISMS is a golden chance for the University to incorporate a systematic approach to managing sensitive information while adhering to the Government directive through Performance Contracting. Additionally, the Vice Chancellor said that the University had appointed an Information Access Officer, Dr. Elijah Walubuka.
