The MUST fraternity has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a united, compassionate and purposeful university community during its University Prayer Day held on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, at the Graduation Square.

Held under the theme, “Model Your Faith in Daily Actions at Work Space as Daily Altar of Sacrifice,” the gathering brought together university leadership, staff and students for prayer, reflection and thanksgiving.

The prayer session, led by Fr. Kinoti, invited the University community to reflect on Matthew 25:31–40 and the practical expression of faith through compassion, integrity, dignity and service to others.

 

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo emphasized the importance of unity, love and purposeful living at MUST. He underscored his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment in which students and staff can pursue their purpose, grow and contribute meaningfully to the University community.

His message reinforced the importance of building a university where individuals feel supported, valued and inspired to fulfil their responsibilities while working towards shared institutional aspirations.

The reflection, titled “The Sheep, the Goats, and the Campus Mirror,” further challenged members of the University community to look beyond academic titles, professional positions and departmental affiliations and recognize the human needs that exist within their everyday environments.

 

Students may face financial hardship, academic pressure, loneliness and emotional distress, while staff navigate professional demands, family responsibilities and personal challenges. These realities call for a community grounded in empathy, mutual respect and practical support.

The reflection encouraged members of the University community to reject discrimination, bullying, gossip and indifference while embracing mentorship, fairness, ethical leadership and care for those experiencing difficulties. It highlighted everyday acts of kindness, from welcoming new students to supporting struggling colleagues. This is a meaningful expressions of faith.

University leaders present included Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs), Prof. Simon Thuranira, Ph.D.; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning), Prof. Hilda Nyougo Omae, Ph.D., Registrar (Academic and Student Affairs), Dr. Stephen Karanja, Ph.D and Prof. Amos Odhiambo Omamo, Registrar/Director for Research, Innovation, Commercialization and Extension (RICE).

The Prayer Day offered an opportunity to reflect on the shared responsibility of nurturing an institutional culture in which academic excellence and innovation are complemented by compassion, integrity and respect for human dignity.

As MUST continues to advance its academic and institutional aspirations, the message remains clear: a purposeful university experience is shaped not only by what individuals achieve, but also by how they treat, support and inspire one another.
