Nairobi, Kenya | September 8, 2026 — The 80th RILEM Week 2026 and 3rd ACCTA International Conference continued with renewed momentum on its third day, bringing together leading researchers, academics, engineers, industry experts and construction professionals from across Africa and beyond.

Held under the theme “Advances in Climate-Friendly Construction Technologies in Africa,” the week-long gathering is providing a platform for knowledge exchange, research collaboration and discussions on innovative approaches to achieving a more sustainable and resilient built environment.

During the opening ceremony, Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, PhD, joined other leaders and experts in emphasising the critical role of research, innovation and collaboration in addressing the challenges facing the construction sector.

The conference has also highlighted MUST’s contribution to advancing research and innovation in cement and concrete technologies through its Institute of Cement & Concrete (ICC). The Institute brings together expertise in research, training, innovation and industry collaboration, contributing to efforts aimed at developing more sustainable construction solutions.

The gathering in Nairobi has attracted a diverse audience, creating opportunities for researchers and industry players to share experiences, present emerging technologies and explore partnerships that can accelerate the adoption of climate-friendly construction practices.

As RILEM Week 2026 progresses, the discussions continue to reinforce the importance of African-led research, global collaboration and innovation in building a greener and more climate-resilient future.
