Celebrating the MUST Sports Champions
The Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) sports champions continually lead the charts in competitive national sporting events. MUST offers a variety of indoor, board and outdoor sporting activities such as rugby, badminton, chess, table tennis, baseball, roll ball, wood ball, netball, darts, volleyball, football, basketball, swimming and athletics among others.
The sports family within the MUST community inscribes resilience, tenacity and team spirit in all players. These activities serve as key factors in establishing the wholesome university student experience required in nurturing holistically developed graduates. Our sports champions perform at an elite level in their sports and studies. It is this holistic approach that creates champions on the field and in the community.
On Tuesday, 28th March, 2023 MUST hosted a luncheon for our Sports Men and Women to appreciate them and celebrate their numerous accolades and achievements. The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo accompanied by members of the University Management Board; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning) Prof. Charity Gichuki, Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) Prof. Simon Thuranira, Registrar (Administration & Planning) Dr. Elijah Walubuka and Ag. Registrar (Academic and Student Affairs) Ms. Mary Asunta Gacheri, graced the luncheon. Also in attendance was the Sports Department led by the Sports Officer Timothy Ramara, the Office of the Dean of Students led by Dr. George Mugambi and the Team Coaches.
At the Conference level, the MUST teams have performed very well in the current academic year managing to take the following 14 teams to the National level competition:

- Badminton men
- Badminton women
- Wood ball men
- Wood ball women
- Table tennis men
- Chess men
On 25th and 26th February, 2023 MUST hosted the Kenya Universities Sports Federation (KUSF) National Indoor Games. The MUST teams continued to shine and the following 7 teams bagged trophies for finishing among the top three universities in their disciplines nationally. This stellar performance placed MUST at POSITION 3 on the Medal Standings Nationally;

The following teams are the Kenya Universities Sports Association (KUSA) Central Conference Champions and will participate in the National Playoffs (Ball Games) later this month at the University of Eldoret: Hockey Men, Soccer Women and Handball Women
The MUST Cross country team is the reigning KUSA National Champion having won the last edition of the competition held in October 2022 at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). MUST teams are also top performers in track and field events with our Women’s team being the reigning KUSA Central Champions.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, heartily congratulated the teams for lifting the MUST flag high by winning the various Championship Titles.
As a MUST student you will have numerous opportunities for personal development. All we require you to have is the initiative to continually evolve. We guide our students to realize and maximize their potential. Ubuntu is our way of life. The MUST community is made up of diverse cultures and experiences brought together by the main aim to acquire quality education. These cultures are unified and embraced through positive human interaction.
