Meru University of Science and Technology Signs Reviewed Human Resource Instruments

Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) has reached a significant milestone in strengthening its human resource management framework following the signing of the reviewed Master Career Guidelines, Functional Staff Establishment and Promotion Criteria. The signing ceremony marked the successful conclusion of a comprehensive review process undertaken jointly by the University Management and the leadership of the three staff unions—UASU, KUSU and KUDHEIHA.

The reviewed instruments are expected to enhance staff welfare by providing clear career progression pathways, establishing a well-defined organizational structure and aligning the University’s human resource framework with its current needs and strategic direction.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Student Affairs (ARSA), who chaired the joint committee that steered the review process, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Finance and Planning (AFP), Prof. Hilda Omae, together with members of the University Management.

Speaking during the ceremony, the DVC ARSA expressed appreciation to the leadership of the three unions for their commitment, cooperation and constructive engagement throughout the review process. He noted that their active participation was instrumental in developing human resource instruments that reflect the interests and aspirations of members of staff while supporting the University’s growth.

Representing the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hilda Omae commended the joint committee for its dedication and professionalism in reviewing the instruments. She reaffirmed the commitment of the University Management and Council to promoting staff welfare and fostering a conducive working environment that supports excellence in service delivery.

The union leaders, in their remarks, thanked the University Management for providing an inclusive platform that enabled meaningful participation throughout the review process. They observed that the collaborative approach demonstrated the University’s commitment to dialogue, mutual respect and sound labour relations.

The signing of the reviewed Master Career Guidelines, Functional Staff Establishment and Promotion Criteria marks an important step towards strengthening institutional governance, promoting fairness and transparency in career progression, and reinforcing the collaborative partnership between the University Management and staff unions.

The reviewed instruments are expected to contribute significantly to improved staff motivation, organizational effectiveness and the continued realization of the University’s strategic objectives.
