MUST Celebrates Compassion International Trainees’ Graduation
In a colourful ceremony marked with pomp and colour, Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) recently celebrated the graduation of trainees who successfully completed various short courses under the sponsorship of Compassion International. The event, graced by our Vice-Chancellor Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, underscored the University’s commitment to equipping youth with industry-relevant skills that prepare them for the dynamic demands of the modern world.
The three-month program offered a diverse range of training opportunities, including hairdressing and beauty therapy, digital photography, phone and computer repair, yogurt making and baking, website development, graphic design, and online writing. These courses were carefully designed to meet the real-world needs of today’s industries, providing the graduates with practical, hands-on skills that are increasingly important in today’s job market.
During the graduation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor delivered an inspiring speech, highlighting the significance of the day not just as a recognition of the trainees’ hard work and dedication, but as a celebration of their readiness to enter the world equipped with valuable skills. “At Meru University of Science and Technology, our commitment has always been to empower youth with industry-relevant skills that enable them to seamlessly transition into the workforce or launch their entrepreneurial ventures,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
The program’s success was attributed to the collaborative partnership between Meru University of Science and Technology and Compassion International, a partnership that reflects a shared vision of transforming lives through education and skill development. This collaboration ensured that each trainee was not only equipped with technical expertise but also empowered for success in their chosen fields.
As the graduates prepare to embark on their new journeys, they were reminded that their training extended beyond technical skills. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the importance of values such as self-awareness, respect, communication and the ability to build and maintain healthy relationships, qualities that are essential for navigating the complexities of both professional and personal life.
“Success is not just about the skills you have acquired but about the positive impact you make on the lives of others. Use your skills, combined with these core values, as your compass as you embark on your journey. The world needs your talents, your creativity and your leadership,” the Vice-Chancellor urged.
The graduation ceremony concluded with heartfelt congratulations to the graduates, with the Vice-Chancellor expressing confidence in their ability to make a lasting difference in the world. As they leave MUST, the graduates carry with them the knowledge and skills necessary to create meaningful change in their communities, equipped to succeed in a variety of fields and ready to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
This graduation not only marks the end of a chapter for the trainees but also signifies the beginning of a journey filled with purpose, fulfillment and joy. Meru University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Compassion International, has once again demonstrated the power of education and skill development in shaping a brighter future for the youth.
