Our Researchers, Amwoma Lorraine Moindi and Beatrice Nyaga, have been approved to participate in the 7th Youth Leadership Summit in Athens, Greece, a gathering dedicated to empowering young leaders in developing comprehensive solutions that address the interconnected needs of society, the economy, and the environment, with a particular focus on the ocean environment.

The Youth Leadership Summit will delve into six key Areas of Action: the climate and ocean nexus, sustainable fisheries, a sustainable blue economy, marine protected areas, maritime security, and various forms of pollution, including sea biodiversity loss, unsustainable fishing, marine pollution (especially from plastics), and unsustainable maritime transport.

Simultaneously, they will have the opportunity to attend the 9th Our Ocean Conference, which aligns with the Youth Leadership Summit’s goals. This conference aims to reaffirm a commitment to a sustainable blue economy, striking a balance between economic growth, social cohesion, and the protection of the marine environment. It will build upon the successful work showcased at #UNEA6 during the United Nations Environment Programme conference in Nairobi a few weeks ago.

Scheduled to commence on April 15, 2024, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) in Athens, this summit holds great promise for fostering positive change.
