Strengthening Global Academic Ties between Kenya and the United Kingdom

Kenya’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Maurice Makoloo, hosted the Chair of Council of Meru University of Science and Technology and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academics, Research and Students Affairs, Prof. Simon Thuranira, at the Kenyan Embassy London. The courtesy visit marks a significant step in advancing international collaboration and strengthening academic partnerships between Kenyan and UK institutions of higher learning.
The engagement focused on exploring strategic opportunities for joint research, academic exchange programmes, innovation partnerships, and capacity building initiatives that align with global higher education trends. Discussions underscored the importance of leveraging international linkages to enhance research output, promote knowledge transfer, and expand opportunities for students and staff through collaborative programmes.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the University’s commitment to fostering impactful research and innovation that address contemporary societal challenges. Emphasis was placed on building mutually beneficial relationships with UK universities and research institutions to support joint grant applications, co-supervision of postgraduate students, and the development of interdisciplinary research projects in areas such as science, technology, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
The visit also provided an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic and academic ties, positioning the University as a key player in global knowledge networks.
