This spirit of collaboration was recently demonstrated when Dr. Joseph Mwiti Marangu, Director of the Institute of Cement & Concrete (ICC), Meru University of Science & Technology, paid a courtesy visit to the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI), JKUAT, Nairobi-Kenya. Key priorities included undertaking joint research projects, sharing laboratory testing facilities, collaborative proposal development and implementing impactful community outreach initiatives. These initiatives, such as conferences and seminar, aim to bridge the gap between academia and society by translating research into practical knowledge that benefits communities.

Such synergies highlight the transformative role academia can play in shaping a sustainable and resilient future. By fostering these collaborations, institutions are not only advancing scientific knowledge but also equipping graduates with the interdisciplinary skills needed to address real-world challenges in a focused approach.

The engagement also reinforced support for the upcoming 80th RILEM Week 2026 & 3rd ACCTA International Conference on Emerging Trends in Climate-Friendly Construction Technology in Africa. Scheduled for 5th – 11th September 2026 at Emara Ole Sereni Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, the conference will be held under the theme “Advancing Sustainable and Climate-Friendly Construction Technologies.”
