Applications are invited for the position of laboratory analyst and geologist in the framework of Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) Technology Resource Centre for Africa (LC3-TRC Africa) project at Meru University of Science & Technology, Kenya. The project aims to support the cement industries in Sub-Sahara Africa on uptake of LC3 technology.
A. Laboratory Analyst
The laboratory analyst will be responsible for coordination of technical activities in the LC3-TRC Africa projects by ensuring that all testwork are done as scheduled.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Carrying out hands-on testing of cement and concrete.
- Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
- Ordering and maintaining a record of supplies, tools, and materials
- Documenting and compiling measurement results
- Promoting safe working environment in the laboratory.
- Preparation of laboratory reports.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of Master’s degree in Chemistry/ Material science or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized institution.
- A certificate course on Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) or equivalent short courses on cement technology will be added advantage.
The laboratory analyst will be responsible for coordination of field and technical activities in the LC3-TRC Africa projects by ensuring that all testwork are done as scheduled.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Planning clay, limestone and gypsum geological and field surveys
- Formulating standard operating procedures for laboratory activities
- Overseeing maintenance of analytical database, records and equipment for geological clay activities
- Conduct field and laboratory testing of clay, limestone and gypsum in qualitative and quantitative aspects.
- Interpreting data on clay mining activities.
- Interpreting data on analytical /diagnostic work on clay, limestone and gypsum.
- Preparation of laboratory reports and work plans.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a minimum of Master’s degree in Earth Sciences/Geology/ Chemistry/ Material science or its equivalent from an accredited and recognized institution.
- A certificate course on Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) or equivalent short courses on cement technology will be added advantage.
