The world is a better place; 1,775 holistically developed graduates equipped with Quality Education and Training joined the global industry on Friday, 27th May 2022 during the Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) 9th Graduation Ceremony (virtual). We celebrated the MUST Class of 2022, a group of strong, purposeful and resilient problem solvers.
A captivating message from the office of the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education, Prof. George Albert Magoha, quoting the Apple Founder and Late CEO, Steve Jobs during the Stanford University Graduation on June 12th, 2005. These words served as an encouragement to the MUST graduands as they transition to start off their careers:
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become… Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish (Jobs, 2005).”
It was indeed a great day as Meru University received the ISO/IEC 27001: 2013 – Information Security Management System (ISMS) Certification during our 9th Graduation Ceremony. The award, presented by The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS) Mt. Kenya Regional Manager, Ms. Caroline Outa-Ogweno was received by MUST Chairman of Council, Prof. Bosire Monari Mwebi, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo and Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (ASA) Prof. Simon Thuranira.
As an institution of Excellence in science, research, technology and innovation, MUST continually celebrates the support of organization and individuals promoting Education as the vital form of change required in this world. Our University is elated to have honored Graduates, Senator Mary J. Coyle and Amb. Dr. Francis Kirimi Muthaura. The MUST Family also honored Amb. Dr. Francis Kirimi Muthaura with the conferment of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa). MUST celebrates the incredible work Amb. Muthaura does through Education. Amb. Dr. Muthaura strongly believes in the power of education as a tool to transcend personal and global challenges. He founded ‘The Ambassador Francis K. Muthaura Foundation’ in 2014, with a purpose to promote Advanced Education of young deserving Kenyans by awarding Masters and PhD scholarships.
The MUST Chairman of Council Prof. Bosire Monari Mwebi shared on the dedication embodied by the University Council in navigating the institution to global status. Prof. Bosire said, “Our aim is to steer MUST into a leading to top notch premier research university in science and technology. As a Council we are committed to building a network of collaboration across the globe that positions MUST as the University of choice in research and innovation. To this, we are holistically in support of the university management in pursuing strategic alliances with post-secondary institutions that we can leverage our strengths.”
The MUST research portfolio has expanded and continues to grow with collaborations forged both within the country and across the globe. We have established international linkages with universities and institutes worldwide; an endeavour that will benefit our students, staff and the institution at large. Also, we have engaged with Ministry of Education in readiness for the Competence Based Curriculum that has been rolled out. More than ever, we are geared to do our part as an institution in the proper implementation of the CBC; both in terms of our teaching as well as supporting the work of teachers, principals and schools in the nation.
Join us in congratulating our 1st PhD Graduates: What a milestone, Hongera!
“To our graduands, be guided that the time of employment is no more. In line with our theme for this year’s graduation, of “Embracing Technology and Innovation to Revolutionize the Global Market”, it is your responsibility to change your world and that around you using all that you have learnt and acquired while at MUST.” Prof. Romanus Odhiambo.
