MUST to Host World AIDS Day (WAD) 2024 for Meru County
Yesterday, we were honored to host a multi-sectoral planning meeting at Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) bringing together the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) represented by Julius Koome, Regional Coordinator for Meru, Isiolo and Marsabit Counties, Meru County Government officials, Ministry of Interior and National Administration officials, Ministry of Health representatives, implementing partners, event sponsors and key stakeholders including USAID Jamii Programme, SoS,, Children’s villages Kenya Redcross Society, Hope Worldwide, The Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Zoe empowers, Sodzo Kenya, Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Services, Tamasha Art Theatre, Ripples International, Dream among others..
The team paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, where they were warmly welcomed by Prof. Eustace Mwenda, representing our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo.
This meeting marks the countdown to a momentous occasion: World AIDS Day (WAD) 2024, which will be hosted right here at Meru University of Science and Technology on 1st December 2024.
In the lead-up to the World AIDS Day, several pre-event activities have been held to engage the community and raise awareness. These include the Annual Meru University Tree Planting Event, attended by members of the Meru County WAD planning committee, blood sugar testing and voluntary HIV screening and counseling from 28th November to 3rd December, 2024. Additionally, we are hosting a friendly football tournament on 30th November between Meru University FC and Nchiru St. Rita FC to foster camaraderie and community spirit.
Prof. Mwenda expressed heartfelt gratitude to the NSDCC for selecting Meru University of Science and Technology as the venue for this significant event. He commended NSDCC’s relentless efforts in tackling HIV/AIDS and other syndemic diseases, highlighting their vital role in saving lives, raising awareness and building healthier communities.
As Meru University of Science and Technology, we are proud to join hands with NSDCC and all stakeholders in this critical fight. Together, we will stand united to foster awareness, inspire action and create a brighter future.
