Scholarship for E-Waste Processing Course

The University invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) from current students with the intent of establishing a professional career in e-waste processing. Selected students will be eligible for a six months training scholarship in e-waste processing under agreed-upon terms as needs arise. The course is accredited and examined by NITA.

E-waste is a term used to cover all items of electrical and electronic equipment and its parts that have been discarded by owners as waste without the intention of reuse. Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) cover a wide range from toasters, smoke alarms, cathode ray tube monitors, telephone sets, electrical toothbrushes, coffeemakers, iron boxes, electrical toys, ovens, TVs, computers, internet routers, energy-saving lamps, batteries, printers, fridges, microwave ovens, drills, high-pressure cleaners, and washing machines.

E-waste is a global challenge, not only due to the ever- increasing EEE production worldwide but also due to inadequate skilled labour-force in e-waste management. This course is therefore demand-driven intended to prepare professionals to fill this skill gap.

Trainees will be equipped with skills and competences on how to:

  1. Observe workplace Safety and Procedures
  2. Safely handle e-waste materials
  3. Dismantle e-waste materials
  4. Properly grade e-waste components and fractions

  6. Safely dispose of reject e-waste materials
  7. Perform basic repairs in e-waste processing
  8. Use e-waste management tools and equipment
  9. Identify mandatory Documents and records for E-waste management
  10. Identify Laws, Policies and Regulations Governing E- Waste Management

The EOI shall contain information on the following:

  1. Qualifications currently possessed by the applicant.
  2. School and year of study.
