Student Association of Meru University (SAMU) 2026/2027 Swearing in Ceremony

Meru University of Science and Technology has officially sworn in the newly elected Student Association of Meru University (SAMU) leaders in a ceremony presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Romanus Odhiambo, PhD, and attended by members of the university management.

The event marked a significant milestone in the university’s leadership calendar, ushering in a new team of student leaders entrusted with representing the interests and welfare of the student body.

In his address, Prof. Odhiambo, PhD, congratulated the newly elected officials and called upon them to uphold integrity, accountability, and inclusivity in their leadership. He emphasized the critical role student leaders play in fostering a conducive academic and social environment.

During the event, the incoming leaders took their oath of office, pledging to uphold the constitution of the student body and to diligently serve the interests of all students. The University Management, present at the ceremony, underscored the importance of integrity, togetherness, and responsible leadership as the foundation for effective governance. They challenged the newly elected team to foster unity among students, promote inclusivity, and maintain high ethical standards throughout their tenure.

The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Student Affairs), Prof. Simon Thuranira; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning), Prof. Hilda Omae; Registrar (Academic), Stephen Karanja and the Dean of Students, Prof. Makau Mutua, alongside other members of staff.

Speaking after taking the oath of office, the newly elected SAMU Chairperson, Mr Mike Kipkorir, pledged his commitment to serve all students and foster unity within the student body. He emphasized the need for reconciliation, particularly following a highly competitive election period, and called on students to work together for the common good.

The newly sworn-in SAMU leaders affirmed their dedication to championing student welfare, strengthening engagement, and enhancing collaboration with the university administration.

The ceremony underscores the university’s commitment to participatory governance and student empowerment.
